Simplistic Tidings

by BREEawNUHH   Jul 4, 2008

Your letters still comfort me
and help me through my reckless times.
Your handwriting so elegant,
the words have committed crimes.

The sweet odor of the paper,
I can smell your cologne.
Though you're not with me now,
still I don't feel alone.

Those adorable little stick figures,
you drew of us with each other.
Bring back the memories,
I can't bare to think of another.

Those stinging words,
were so painful the first time around.
I'll never be able to forget,
when I found you face down.

"My beautiful angel, don't you worry now",
is the first thing you said.
"We'll both be better off this way",
was scripted on the paper taped to the bed.

Those few, simplistic tidings,
tore my life apart.
Until I found the journal you wrote in,
your feelings came from the heart.

"Don't let the bad things,
bring your life down.
Just keep that beautiful smile,
and please do not frown."

After that day had finished,
I made you a vow.
I'd keep a smile on my face,
even when I didn't know how.

A box of pictures, letters and my memories,
are all I have to help me through.
I'll keep on living my life,
because I know you'd want me to.

I continue to miss your eyes,
your sweet and kind voice.
Baby, I'll be okay,
it'd be your first choice.

Your letters comfort me,
when all I can do is cry.
I'll go on as best I can,
even if I have to try and try.

Wow. .this was absolutely beautiful. The first part made me smile, and as I read through it, I could feel tears coming to my eyes. The title of the poem particularly jumped out to me when i was reading through your list of poetry. I also particilarly liked the first stanza

    "Your letters still comfort me
and help me through my reckless times.
    Your handwriting so elegant,
    the words have committed crimes."

I honestly can't find a flaw in the poem at all. A very nice job on this. 5/5
