The beast looks just like me

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   Jul 4, 2008

The beast looks just like me

His very presence, sucks the light out of the day
His minions, eager to do his bidding in everyway
A fearsome countenance that shifts and changes
His stench rides the winds, as the earth he rearranges

With one foul swoop of his steely claws
Another rain forest gone, in the name of his cause
His minions clap in joyful glee, as the heat begins the northern thaws
No one seems to care, as the tides rise on our coastal shores

He vomits his filth, into our rivers and streams
And destroys the places of my childhood dreams
I look at the horizon in unfamiliar surprise
At the colours I see, in the strangest sunrise

He drives those claws deep into the earth
And sucks the dark liquid gold, right out of the dirt
When our mother's skin bursts, with a terrible shake
They say not to worry, it's just another earthquake

What terrible monster on earth was unleashed?
That cares for none, but the fattening feast
His venomous breath that I so despise
Destroys all it touches, and burns a hole in the sky

It saddens me so, to gaze on this beast
As he lowers his head to devour his feast
Suddenly I realize what saddens me most, of all that I see
THE BEAST LOOKS JUST LIKE ME

This is totally.. breath taking. What an original way to write about a problem that is taking over the world. the ending was really great too.. because we are all contributing to it, correct?

    Awesome work!

This is amazing. You have penned the problem perfectly. There will be nothing left soon, what God gave us we are destroying just like everything man touches
    Well said Grant

Global warming is an issue all over the world. How many people really care what happens. Should one watch silently while the earth is being molested, tortured? All this mining, over population makes everything scarce.............Seriously I wonder how long will it take for all to realize the beast is indeed us........... lovely poem.
