Why Did You Leave? (Shakespearian Sonnet written in Iambic Penta

by My Obsεssion   Jun 1, 2004

When all I seem to think about is you
When ev'rything reminds me of your face
It gets so bad I don't know what to do
I just want to leave this horrible place

Why can't I seem to see the point of this
Going on without you anywhere near
When you were near, my life was total bliss
But now it's not at all, the worst I fear

Without you life just seems to be a waste
My grief I must find a way to console
I want you to return soon in much haste
I love you with all of my heart and soul

I wish you were still here with me today
It seems that I will always hurt this way

*this was actually written for English class and it had to be a sonnet written in iambic pentameter (sonnet is a form of poetry it has only 14 lines and a certain rhyme scheme, iambic means the syllables alternate unaccented accented and so on, pentameter means there are 5 pairs of them per line meaning there is also 10 syllables per line) Yea I found it hard to express myself the was I wanted to in this strict format, I do much better when I'm writing in any form I choose. So I just wanted you to know a little background on this poem..All comments and votes are appreciated :D*

Oh yea crud, it cut off my last 2 lines..i didnt even notice *blushes* I will have to fix that now, thanks!

  • Did you forget your last two lines? A sonnet has fourteen lines, yours had twelve. Plus the fifth line was too short to be iambic pentameter. On the whole it was good though. Its just that I didn't give it full points because you said it was supposed to be a sonnet. Good job anyway, keep up the good work.
