A Desperate Generation

by Ren   Jul 7, 2008

Dear generation before us:

I wish you would have listened,
To what we had to say,
You shut us out of your busy lives,
And look where we are today.

We could have made a difference,
But we were oh so small,
Just children and teens, we were,
But no one cared at all.

You took advantage of her,
This beautiful world called Earth,
You snatched away her innocence,
And an abomination you gave birth.

You left things behind,
For us to deal with now,
Like global warming and war,
Why didn't you tell us how?

We are a Desperate Generation,
And here we still stand,
Trying to make something,
Out of what you left at hand.

The governments out of control,
Humans no longer try,
We let ourselves go,
And now we're left to die.

If people weren't so selfish,
And thought things through,
We wouldn't be fighting our kind,
Because they are humans too.

We would have taken care of,
The only planet we can live on,
We would have thought twice,
Before we dropped that bomb.

Our world consists of violence,
Drugs and Greed too,
Our brilliant minds no longer function,
Because money lead us through.

Maybe if someone will wake up,
And realize what we've done,
We could fix this damage,
And society could move on.

But we are still sleeping,
In our materialistic minds,
And once things get out of hand,
We'll be out of time

Im filled with images of families vegging out on smart phones, video games, and tv instead of spending quality time together.

It's sad and unfortunate, but very true.

I completely agree though, I've been trying to write a poem like this for ages but never had the right words, yet you did it so well, great way to get the point across, and hey who knows, maybe people may finally listen.
