Slipping on her pinafore
she looked out the window
she wished she didnt
have to go to school
not for today and
not for all the tomorrows
teachers were frightful
lessons so hard to follow
in class she sat by the window
watching the rain fall down
waiting for it to be over
and bring on a pretty rainbow
sometimes she pretended
she was somewhere else
playing with squirrels
running bare-footed
face flushed and aglow
and the years went by
now she's old and mellow
passing days sitting by the window
feeling strangely hollow
and like how it was long ago
she still doesnt care for tomorrow
whatever it may bring
she doesnt want to know
she just looks out the window
waiting for the elusive rainbow
