The Wrong Sort of Dance

by RetroRavey   Jul 12, 2008

Dolls of girls and boys
dancing a vicious dance,
back and forth,
round and round in circles.
Rituals beyond any comprehension,
and they gather
clinging to each other...
They dance so meticulously,
every move planned to perfection.
Is it wrong that I don't dance that dance?
I don't indulge myself
in their sacrifice,
trading love for what they think is right...
I never felt right in their waltz,
holding tight to someone I didn't love
for my love hadn't come yet.
In their perfect little dance
every doll has its perfect match,
just like Barbie and Ken...
But my Barbies danced with Ken after Ken,
and ended up with another Barbie...
They think it's wrong
that my dance is wild and chaotic,
that it's not just like theirs...
But I'm not like them.
Maybe I just dance the wrong dance...

Or maybe they do.

OMG! I love this poem... I thought I was the only one! Ugh... even thinking about going to clubs where everyone is doing that makes me feel horrible inside... and my girlfriend loves it. God, it's a relief to know I'm not the only person who feels this way. Great write! and I'd give you a high five for saying this to so many people! They all need a smack in the face!!!!! haha 5/5

"holding tight to someone I didn't love"

I really liked that line for some reason. I loved this poem. I thought it was really good. Everyone should stand up for what they believe in, and this poem is just your way of showing that to the rest of the world. Good job!

Yet again another brilliant poem and yet still conveying a message to the rest of the world of the beliefs that you have in life. I believe that this is a good read for all even though very much different from the usual. Excellent work! 5/5 from me.

^^ Ah! I loved this part. It was different, but really cool.

Your choice of wording was really good in this piece, also.
