To a Son From His Sailor Dad

by Ray Smallshaw   Jul 13, 2008

You're still a boy, who gets to dirty and plays to loud,

Yet as your father you make me proud,

You try to do the things I advise,

That's a great thing for a lad of your size,

When I am away you play the man,

I'm sorry that wasn't my plan,

My big regret is i'm not there,

Yet never think that I don't care,

Yes, I know you will soon grow away,

But i'll still Love you every passing day,

You'll perhaps have children of your own,

I hope you'll never have to leave them alone,

As i'm so proud to be your dad,

And I thank the lord that you're my lad.
