Cold

by Emily   Jul 15, 2008

I sit in the theater listening,
to the enjoyment of the crowd,
My eyes with tears are glistening,
A demon behind me howled,
The laughter is empty,
The eyes are cold.

In the midst of a party I stand,
trying to laugh with my dear friends,
But darkness is so close at hand,
Where will we be when our youth ends?
Fun is so empty when life is so cold...

Tv, internet, parties, food,
Dating, friends, wealth, where do they lead?
Worthless, shallow, meaningless, crude,
For selfish pleasure our hearts greed,
I am so empty. I am so cold.

O God! It's you that I should serve!
Instead of my own worthless self,
Do not treat me as I deserve!
You be on the throne not my self.

Save me from emptiness,
Warm this heart,
Melt this cold.
Amen.
