Can you see the girl
at the age of ten
at her mother's funeral
shocked and afraid?

Can you see the girl,
torn apart,
by her father's betrayal
and her stepmother's words?

Can you see the girl
lost and confused
as she tries to understand
this world on her own?

How about the girl
who recently emerged,
the one who punctures skin
because she needs the control;

Can you see her?

Can you see me?

The only thing that stops me
is a sudden realization;
Though I've begged you to see,
you have yet to open your eyes.
