Higher Arks

by Michael D Nalley   Jul 18, 2008

Once there was a prophet not so poetic
His poetic feet were actually pathetic
To spread prophesy he would sweat blood
To warn everyone about an impending flood

But his poems lacked the literary value needed
So his catastrophic warnings would go unheeded
One day the clouds gathered in the stormy skies
Rain fell upon the earth like tears from Gods eyes

Though his forecast of a deluge had hit its mark
None of the wicked was even near Noah's ark
They were busy reading great poetry and prose
But were praying for mercy as the water rose

If they had read instead a prophetic prediction
Not so hopelessly bound by poetic addiction
Word of the coming disaster would have spread around
They would have built many arks, and not have drowned

    Beautifully written.

Perfect rhyming and a great storyline bring this poem together so nicely. The wicked (rich and uncaring) were too wrapped up in what they felt was important and thus unlike Noah, who listened, did not survive.

    Great job. 5/5

That last line was great. It was just a nice way of saying...you all suck and are lazy asses. It was great. :D

The topic was interesting and was a delightful change.

The rhyming was consistant and the flow was soothing so I'd say you did a pretty darn good job of intriguing the reader.

    Five out of five.

I have to admit the title mystified me at first and I didn't know what the poem was about till the fourth line. I find this poem somewhat ironic, sarcastic, and humorous. But there is a tragic undertone because of the subject. Good job
