The Crocodile, the huge Fish and Me

by Orchid Man   Jul 18, 2008

Sweetheart, I knew one day it would happen to me and today was the day -
- I was innocently fishing when I saw two eyes of a crocodile looking up and smiling
Between you and me I could picture it thinking to itself, "This is my dinner tonight"
There was no time for me to jump back as its eyes had hypnotised me and I stood frozen.

I instinctively realized I had one option available and that was to fight it man to crocodile
You see my love this could have been you standing here and I couldn't allow this to happen to you
The crocodile's jaws yawned opened and there were rows of sharp white teeth pointing at me
Then to make matters worse a huge fish bit my hook and was trying to swim away to freedom.

Pictures of you flashed through my mind; pictures of my angel growing up and standing by me
Orchid Lady, you were such a lovely bride and I have always been so proud to have you in my life
Memories of the time when your body was so full of pain I used to weep silently to myself -
- I did this because I didn't want you to see a grown man crying, but your illness frightened me.

Then my thoughts turned to the good times, those days and nights when we were lost in love
Those times when angels smiled down on us and I could hear church bells ringing out with their approval
But.....there was no time for me to be thinking of anything else other than to tackle this crocodile, so -
- without another thought for my own safety, I picked up my fishing knife and plunged into the murky water.

The crocodile made a strange sound like a laughing hiss and it came lunging at me, but I stood my ground
Silly as I was to take on such an amphibian my thoughts were only to rid you of a possible attacker
Foolishly I made a grab for it and felt a nasty sting as its jaws clamped down on my fingers -
- it was then I remembered crocodiles' grab a prey, and then make a victory roll underwater.

However sweetheart, with knife in hand I prised open its jaws and removed my very sore fingers
I became very worried in case any other crocodiles came to investigate the disturbance in their territory
The waters around the river bank were becoming churned up and it was difficult to see through the mud
Once again I saw its body and began to punch it with all my might but it came back at me again.

Sweetheart, crocodiles are a protected species and I knew it was illegal to harm it in anyway, but -
- I had to do something to ensure my safety, so when I saw an eye I let fly with a big punch
To my relief the reptile trod water, then it slowly backtracked and with a hiss it swam away
Orchid of my life, please forgive me for my foolish behaviour but I was thinking of your future safety.

All this while a monster fish with the power of a four-cylinder outboard motor had been hooked
Believe me sweetheart the sweat was pouring from me as I tried to haul it in and bring it home to you
To my joy the fish relaxed and with speed I landed it onto the river bank where its mouth gulped fresh air
Oh dear my love, I have wrestled with a crocodile, caught a huge fish and now have to tell you the truth.

The so-called giant crocodile was only 6 inches long and the fish was smaller than a fifty-cent coin!
I only wished to write you a poem that would take away the seriousness and worries of daily life
You mean so much to me; I only wanted to write this light-hearted poem in an attempt to make you laugh
However sweetheart of my life, remember this: NEVER STAND BY THE BANK OF A TROPICAL RIVER.

Take care my lovely Orchid - please.....Always take care - I love you.
