A Memory of Love

It began as a classic romantic fairytale,
We thought could never expire
You burned right through me, melted me,
Like a candle caught on fire.

Your eyes, when trapped into mine,
Were flawless so it seemed,
So bright and pure like a cloudless day,
Only I could have dreamed...

When you held my hand in yours,
All trouble went away,
I could've sworn you once said to me
Forever you would stay

The three words never meant something
Until the day you spoke,
But just like the burning candle I love,
That fire turned to smoke.

Ever since you found your new love,
You threw me in the dark.
And I never thought so much beauty
Could die inside this heart.

And since you left, I could swear,
Forever came to an end,
My life I wanted to give to you,
I never got to spend.

This classic romantic fairytale ruined,
It all came to a close,
And all these precious memories
Withered in me like a rose.

It hurts to recall those memories,
The taste of your lips, I forgot.
But the love we had, forever remembered
Because a memory is all I've got.

*A/N*-I know it seems like another pathetic piece about loving someone who doesnt loveyou back...and it probably is, but I haven't ever put so much thought or heart into one of my poems before. I'm currently experiencing something that's a bit traumatizing for me, and I haven't slept all night. Words don't come to me easily, so this poem was difficult...but feedback would be nice.
