Dead As I Am

by Unrequited   Jul 18, 2008

My heart is drowning,
down by the sea, it flows so cold
dealing with the loss
of love and a dream, growing old
I tried to step
beyond regret
but the waters hold me in,
buried in its skin
our love is lost,
hollow lungs breathing their last.

It's a golden waste
praying for answers I can't place
whispers in a shout
don't bring color back to my face
it's a nightmare
I can't escape
but the waters hold me in,
buried in its skin
cold winter skies
live in their dreams while mine die.

But I'll crawl to your feet,
as dead as I am,
bearing my heart
upon tattered sleeves...

Shadows in hiding
staring through secrets we believe
sorrow is sheltered
under dreams carried by the sea
so many dreams
never retrieved
trapped inside this water's hold
heartache lets me go
and now I'm free
to float away inside my dream.

And I'll see you there,
as I crawl to your feet
bearing my heart
offering love I hope you'll receive.

I love the colours and mood you evoke with this poem, like a song without music. Lovely.
