Driven Away

by Emily   Jul 19, 2008

I'm sorry my friend, I can take this no longer,
I wish I could stay, I wish I could be stronger,
But now is the time I must depart,
Because this has happened too many times before,
And though this is breaking my heart,
I can't be your friend, I can take this no more.

So I run, I run away,
Knowing that you will not care to follow,
You'll never know because I'll never say,
That you have driven me and our friendship away.

For years I've been your friend, yet you still flirt with me,
And all the other girls. You don't care. You don't see,
that when you taught me to dance,
You made me vulnerable and I broke within,
I am not just your audience,
I feel I must withdraw unless my trust you win.

So I run, I run away,
Knowing that you will not care to follow,
You'll never know because I'll never say,
That your compelling charm has driven me away.

You don't realize what you do to girls with your laughing smile,
For you are young, joyful, and you have no guile,
The fault is not yours but mine,
For caring for you more than just a friend,
I accept the hurt and pain as mine,
I understand, I need time to mend.

And so I run, I run away...
Wishing you would care to follow,
But you'll never know cause I'll never say,
That My feelings for you have driven me away.

Thanks (: Yes I did have too high of an expectation for that friendship. Thankfully God showed me this and now my friendship with the young man is a brother and sister friendship that isn't selfish from my end anymore. (:

This was actually quite sad, to me anyway.
It sounded like you had greater expectations from your friendship, but you're obviously mature enough to know better. Well done
