My Transgressions

by Poetic Tragedy08   Jul 21, 2008

First off, this is my first stab at a "religious" poem, I'm trying to widen my range of poetry, let me know :)

My life was mine to live
I felt as if I chose my path
I thought I could do anything
Without the fear of gods wrath

But like graves in a pond
I was withering away
I could no longer feel his grace
That made me want to stay

Lord, I am the rock
That was tossed towards you
Lord, I am the whip
That streaked you so new

Lord, I am the spit
That was smeared on your face
Lord, I am the nail
That was forced in your grace

You offered me your hand
I put it on a cross
You told me you loved me
Even when I was lost

You showed me the path
With your loving feet
But I nailed them down
With such anger and heat

But yet the sun still shines
I can still breathe
You granted me life
And never to leave

My transgressions still haunt
But you take them away
I'll continue to follow thee
And try, till my dying day

So surprised that no one has commented on this poemm yet. one of those ones that i really had to pay attention to, to figure out where you were coming from, but well worth it. absolutely love the lines 'Lord, I am the nail
That was forced in your grace'. to me it sums up the bulk of the poem in a wonderfully poetic way
