Time To Show off Broken Hearts (Rondeau)

by Jenni Marie   Jul 21, 2008

Here I go again, why did I listen to my heart
All you ever did was tear it completely apart
Here come the tears, oh how terribly cliche
You still want to be friends, oh lucky day!
Should've listened to the warnings from the start

Struck yet again with Cupid's poisoned dart
Now living with a broken, blackened heart
Trying so hard to keep constant tears at bay
Why did I listen to my heart

Like an actor, how well you played your part
Had me deceived, taken in right from the start
My world technicolour til you painted it grey
Used to hold me, but now you're so far away
Piece by piece, continue to rip me apart
Why did I listen to my heart

A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a
sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a
refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the
same metrical length).
