Mature

by Jes Miller   Jul 23, 2008

I look in the mirror
And see myself sharing back,
But the more I look
The more I realize

I am not just a girl,
I am not just someone with a pretty face,
But instead,
I am a girl who is mature,

For only being 16,
I consider myself very mature,
But I have to be
For I have two younger brothers
And knowing each time that I look at them,
That they look up to me,

But as I continue to stare in the mirror,
I realize why I am the way I am,
And a smile creeps upon my face,
Knowing I have three loving people to look up to myself,

Two of them being my parents,
Ever since birth,
You guys were teaching me things,
Such as where my nose was,
My eyes
Ears,
Nose, and so on,

Then when I started to grow
And understand more
You both taught me even more things
Things like how to tie my shoes,
Button my pants
Put on my clothing and so on

Then the school years started
And again
You both were there to help me
Help me with my homework
With my projects
And to help me study for my test
The school years keep flying by
And I continue to grow and go higher in my education
But still
As each day that passes
You still continue to teach me
Constantly telling me what is right
And what it wrong

Then boys come into the picture
And you both worry about my heart
Which I appreciate
But all I ask
Is that you be there for me
And not tell me you both told me so
if our relationship does turn cold

Then I have my older sister
For she is 20 now
And though we are four years apart
It does not seem that way
But ever since I remember
I have always looked up to you

I have looked up to you in so many ways
With how you acted towards yourself
Not allowing anyone to push you around
The sports you went out and tried
And always telling me to just try it
The nights we stayed up late
Talking about boys
and like mom and dad
Always telling me to just be careful

Like you looked up to dad about hunting
I have looked up to you
Hearing the stories about your experiences
I could not wait until the age of 12
When I myself could experience it myself
I love the outdoors and the adrenaline you feel before pulling the trigger
But I also love
That dad
You and I
Can all do something we enjoy together

For our family is close
And whether we know it or not
We always have younger eyes looking up to us
So I want to say thanks
Thanks for helping me become who I am today
And to tell you
I appreciate everything that you do for me
For I know sometimes I may throw a fit
And make your blood pressure rise
But it is just sometimes I wish you could see things how I see them

I Love you guys!
