The Day God Called Him Home (Sonnet)

by Irene   Jul 25, 2008

His eyes were closed, but he wasn't asleep.
His warm and smooth skin, is now hard and cold.
Now he lay there buried in the ground deep,
the depressing coffin starting to mold.

Swaying along this cold Earth, goes his soul.
Cigarettes slowly took his life away.
His departure left my heart with a hole,
never will I forget that solemn day.

When I saw him in that coffin I cried,
cried til' my eyes were the color scarlet.
Racing to say my last 'good bye' I tried,
sadly in front of his coffin, I sit.

The day God called him home ceased his suffering,
whenever I look up into the clouds, I see him smiling.

Awww....this is really sad. There was such much emotion in it and you expressed your sadness well. Good job!
