Oh Holy Elevator

by RussianRendezvous   Jul 27, 2008

I was born into a descending cradle.
It never matters how much we have to say.
Because as my first words are spoken,
The first cable becomes broken.
Subtract thirteen more to this day.

I'll bury the well she made me thirst for.
Though there's much worse things to fall into.
Because what you said and how you told her,
Haunts your thoughts as you grow older.
There's more than one way to follow through.

And I am dying proof.
If He ever asks you how you knew,
Tell them there's never been a difference,
Between what we say and what we do.

Could it make me feel any less guilty?
So I can't believe we earn our scars.
We're too busy stealing the bones,
Torn from underneath their headstones.
The throne and crown of fallen stars.

It takes me back to the beginning.
It takes me back to the step-by-step.
It takes me back to a man and woman.
It takes me back to a bed.

Because living is dying proof,
If He ever asks you how you knew...

A very sad tale, one that 'descends' (your word) deeper in sadness.

I am confused to what the last line in the first stanza signifies, is it the number that is unlucky?

In the second stanza I like the 'well' metaphor, great image too!

Third Stanza, this so profound and a central focal point of the piece, one which is nicely referred to at the end. :)

Fourth stanza, this has blown me away. The questions it raises are so deep. Earning scars and vs stealing bones, a great debate!

Fifth stanza, 'It takes me back..' I like the way you repeat this, as it really drums home your emotional message.

As I mention earlier, finishing off with the focal point is an excellent way of finishing this excellent piece.

    Well done
