I saw a star rise high in the
Evening sky,
It hung like a jewel,
softly shining.
I saw a star fade in the
Evening sky,
the dark was too deep and so light died.
Molten gold and frosty blue gems
Precious as stars of night
Expression and beauty in them caught.
The leaves of the deep green wood
Twine about the air
Here I find the reflection of
One so wondrous fair
This beauty chased away the dark
But the dark here still remains
Even though love is here
My soul is consumed by flames
I see the stars every night
And then I think of you
A strong, burning, shining light.
I try to hold on for your sake
But no matter how hard I try
I close my eyes
And again I long to cry
I will love you until I pass on
Into eternal sleep.
For what might have been,
for what never was.
For a life, short lived
for a love half given.
