Second Chances and Hit-and-Miss Romances [Lyrics]

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Jul 31, 2008

I held on desperately to the phone, listening to a screaming dial tone,
And I just wanted to tell you that it's lonely here without you.
But despite the voice that's echoing inside my head,
I'll drown myself in the sorrow of your memory instead.
You could never see the potential I held inside,
And you say it was blocked by the smoke and my pride,
But even eyes that are bloodshot red can see,
It is clear that you just weren't the one for me.

The ashtray tells of the most exciting part of my night,
And you can smell my habits from outside the door,
But it's getting worse, worse than it was before.
I'm laying naked, tangled up in my sheets,
And you wish you were laying next to me.
But the thought of me scares the shit out of you,
Regardless of the fact that you were too proud to admit it.
So I wait for you to react, to say anything to me,
But you just look on in disgust and shake your head.

I twisted all of my hopes onto an old ticking clock,
Relying on time to make you forget, or at least forgive;
And you said that I wasn't gonna get one last chance,
But my heart told me to hold on for our last dance.
And you seen me breaking, falling to the floor,
But you weren't strong enough, so you closed the door;
And I listened to the sound of your running feet,
As it became the lullaby that put me to sleep.

My world went into a backspin, and where the hell were you?
My intentions had gotten the best of me in the early hours,
As I wished upon the stars that once were proclaimed as ours,
The smoke collapsed my lungs, suffocating my ability to call for you,
But you know I want you to come home, just come home.
Come home.
