The Ranch

by Jenna Rose Kat   Aug 3, 2008

I remember how it used to be,
I could walk without a care,
The little ranch where I grew up,
The breeze blew through my hair.

The horses neigh to me,
So I pet their velvet coats,
And to my surprise I smile,
Feeling my heart float.

I breathe in deep,
And I smell the fresh hay,
It's prickly to my skin,
Yet theirs nothing to say.

I look up to the sky,
Cloudless, clean, and blue,
I begin to feel young,
I know this bliss is true.

I wonder around, into the barn,
Cats in rafters meow at me,
Cobwebs cover the corners,
It may be dark, but there's no misery.

The people here don't want to see you hurt,
They care and will help those in need,
I smiled at the passing stranger,
Knowing we'll never let each other bleed.

But when the time comes,
I'll say good-bye,
So good-bye, my Ranch,
Good-bye.
