Generation of Bling

by Bill Turner   Aug 3, 2008

Honor has been lost in this world
Exchanged for narcissism
The consummate disease of me
Neighborhoods lost to consumerism
Personal light powered by materialism

Ditch the toys, phones and bling bling cribs
All you own is not all you are, hiding behind a pimp car
Real trouble will someday come into your life
Sooner or later you shall feel the snakes bite
Your character will be what makes things right

Standing tall does not involve a silk suit
Clothes do not make the man
How you dispatch the trouble in your life
Defines all that you can truly be
It is what sets you free

Some people never understand
Others wait until the hand of death
I implore you, find it for yourself
Pound out the rhythm of your own beat
Make the day of everyone that you meet

    Bill
I love the message in this piece.

Standing tall does not involve a silk suit
Clothes do not make the man
How you dispatch the trouble in your life
Defines all that you can truly be
It is what sets you free

How true... it is not what the man dons on the outside but the compassion, kindness and courage within. Sometimes it takes a tragedy for some to realize that things don't matter it is the heart and soul of the person that count.

    Some people never understand
Others wait until the hand of death
I implore you, find it for yourself
Pound out the rhythm of your own beat
Make the day of everyone that you meet

I love the ending. Just a smile sometimes can make anothers day.
    Great job!

This poem really made me think of the kids I work with,They think all the material things are a sign that a person is doing good.(regardless of how they obtained it)Your poems are very straightforward and informative. great work.I would love to show them this.
