The disappearance of Gennie

by Ingrid   Aug 5, 2008

I will never forget
that awful day
The sudden realization
you had gone away

The promise we made
I forgot for ten days
While I had sworn
to look after you always

Last time I checked,
you had a smile on your face
By the time remembered,
you were gone without a trace

You told me you are mentally ill*
To me you were just more aware
of the craziness of everyday life,
more sensitive and in need of TLC

Maybe it is the other way around
and it is the people outside
that should be locked up
Maybe they should hide

This deranged world,
where innocent souls asleep on a bus
get decapitated on a whim
It could have happened to anyone of us.

Mass murderers and war criminals
are treated with respect**
while all around the world those who cannot
defend themselves face abuse and neglect

You were the sweetest thing
that ever came my way
and I will carry you with me
in my heart until my dying day

Gennie le B. posted her work as Trying to hold on at P&Q. In the beginning of June 2008 I was busy with my final exams and I forgot my promise to her By the time I remembered she was gone..I tried to reach her in every possible way and even mailed her mother, but no reply came.
Gennie, if ever you should ever read this poem, even if it is in the far future please let me know how you are doing. Not a day goes by that I do not think of you.
I am so sorry I forgot our promise. I pray to God that you are safe.

Love, always..your friend Ingrid

*Gennie is bi polar, most of her poems are about that subject. It is a condition that makes a person go from extremely happy to intensely sad, without in between conditions ( plz look it up, I don't know how to translate this correctly:) )

** War criminals are flown in in by private jet and transported by limousine to their cell, that looks a lot like a hotel room. I live near The Hague and I can see them, as they arrive at the prison of Scheveningen..people like Milosovic and Karadic.
