Oh, Cherry Tree.

by Melissa   Aug 8, 2008

Pavement smooth and black is cold and lonely in the dark
The sky is so empowered; it's a long journey to embark
I've packed my dreams and childhood all into this little box.
Looking for something more, other than closed doors, and broken hearts repeatedly smashed against the rocks.

Always in question of what is to happen next.
Lost in the dusk, I feel someone has stacked the deck.
People are always betting against me, hoping that I'll lose
But I am determined, and giving up is something I refuse.

Eyes of judgment surpass me, as I walk this frayed line.
The memories that belong to me, don't even feel like they are mine.
Am I a coward to say, I am scared for what is to come?
I walk below the streetlamps in a silent hum.

Just the aroma of the seasons creations keep me calm
Sweet sent to my current frustrations gives me relaxing balm.
Looking back at the house filled with empty souls
I will not let them take my dreams and all my inspiring goals.

I'll go with my heart stitched to the sleeve
This is your last chance to ask me to stay; before you know I'll leave.
Standing at the gate with my little box ready to flee
I looked up one last time to admire my favorite, cherry tree.
I've given a look at my life, and somehow;
I know just how great it will be.
Things will work out, if you let them
Just be patient and believe.
