Monotonous Mondays

by Wolf Haines   Aug 8, 2008

Turning over in bed to the sound of the alarm clock
And then pressing snooze.

Having a quick shower
And picking out todays tie.

Blue to match the mood
Or pink to liven the day up?

Waiting for the toast to burn
And the kettle to boil.

Sipping black coffee, wishing you were in bed,
And hating your job.

Driving to work in a dreary manner
To the beat of 80's pop music on the radio.

' I, I just died in your arms tonight...
Must have been something you said...

Entering the office along with dozens of others,
Being greeted by the boss.

You just know he takes pleasure in seeing you all
Slip further into depression as each day passes.

Slowly getting on with work,
But mainly catching up on the weekend gossip.

' She never!?'
' She did! And her partner still doesn't know about it...'

Lunch break comes around and you're feeling slightly happier.
Chance to rush around and pick up all the bits and pieces

You forgot to buy on your weekend trip to the supermarket.
Don't forget that birthday card for your nephew!

It's the end of the day. Rushing home knowing you still have
Four days of the week left,

But on the bright side you only have
Twenty five years of this until retirement.

Or more importantly until you
Get that retirement present (clock) from the board of directors.
