I Can Be Strong

by Emma   Aug 10, 2008

I could write an epic poem
(And have written quite a few)
To demonstrate the love and loss
I've felt because of you.
I could beg you to return
(And did do many times)
And pour out heartfelt, sentimental,
Stupid Shakespeare lines.
I could cry into my pillow
(And most nights my eyes were streaming)
And weep myself to slumber
And suffer useless dreaming.

But then again, I could be strong.
I will not weaken, I will not cry.
I am a strong and powerful woman.
My heart broke but I did not die.
I'm still alive and breathing.
My life hasn't reached its end.
I live my life to conquer
The trials it will send.
I am a fighter, I cannot forget it.
I must remember to be strong.
Although my heart did tear in two
I was living all along.

A man can't make me forget what I am.
I'll show the world (though it may take time)
I have the strength to walk away
For me and all of womankind.
