Soothing Lullabies

by Timothy   Aug 11, 2008

1st Verse:
He tried to be a man,
But sometimes that's easier said than done;
He wanted to stand tall,
But all his self-pride was entirely gone.
The alcohol had rotted him away,
Inside, but more importantly out;
No one can love someone who doesn't love himself,
and he had not the energy to shout.
Laying in detox, in the fetal position,
in drenching sweat he screams and cries;
He remembers fifty years ago, a happier time,
when Mama sang to him soothing lullabies.

Chorus:
Soothing Lullabies, Soothing Lullabies,
Hush little baby, don't you cry;
Soothing Lullabies, Soothing Lullabies,
I'll always be here to stop your sighs;
Soothing Lullabies, Soothing Lullabies...nah nah nah

2nd Verse:
She tried to be a lady,
But sometimes that's just an illusion;
Walking in a stagger every night,
The only respect she gets is in her delusions.
The prostitution had withered her,
Inside, but more importantly out;
She marched to the beat of a funeral procession,
and to her downward spiral, she was devout.
Laying on her stomach, wretching again,
She whimpers, but yet denies;
She remembers twenty years ago, a sweeter time,
when Papa sang to her soothing lullabies.

Chorus:
Soothing Lullabies, Soothing Lullabies,
Hush little baby, don't you cry;
Soothing Lullabies, Soothing Lullabies,
I'll always be here to stop your sighs;
Soothing Lullabies, Soothing Lullabies...nah nah nah
