Last Frontiers

by ALEX   Aug 14, 2008

Delve into your mind,
that last frontier so neglected.
What are you, ultimately?
What do you know that's all your own,
not a product of the world you call corrupt?

What if you were uninfluenced?
Would you be anything at all-
or a simple figment of apathy?

Or, define pure thought
as the polar opposite of what you were taught?
No. Because we all learn the same things
from the wall or world we're plugged in to.
And if we reject it all...
we'd only form a backwards/negative society
no better or worse than the one we were fixing.

So lets question it all, not auto-reject it into the rubbish bin.
Mull every speck over, run it through our heads,
through our mouths like mouthwash
to flush out bacteria and implanted thoughts.
Where would we start?
Would we know where to stop?
Where to draw the line or would we
suck the meaning out of every last shred of life we know?

You see?
Maybe this last frontier can't/shouldn't be reached,
else you'll drown in it's vastness and
your mind will swallow you up.

I liked this poem. It asked some good questions. Sometimes the best poem is one that makes you think. 5/5
