With Love, For A Marine

by Samantha   Aug 16, 2008

Upon the eve of summers beginning this
thing called life turned upside down
Through the words spoken from his lips
The killer of men the separation of
cultures countries ideals struck the
first blow. inevitable showers of fire
and water rained down on this earth
simultaneously creating a sea of pain. hurt
beyond all suffering imaginable broke
apart symbols of love across this nation.
corruption of old men has been
separating and destroying young love
since time began. a force
stronger than the winds of a
hurricane barreled through the eighteenth
year of life. innocence youth taken
with a smile and ink on paper. he
sold his strength and mind to his country,
and left me here to fend for myself. though
fate and irony would have it
so that he protects the very threads
that hold me to my life. choice is
a cruel part of this world of evils
fighting for good.

Fireworks arranged by the government
bombard the night sky the sound
and intensity cutting through the night
as a freight train would rumbling
down a track through black nothingness.
The moon a backdrop to the red paint
of war looks down upon the lights
of freedom and is sad.
Many times over the moon wans out
of existence and then back again just to
disappear the next time someone notices
the stars. occasionally while gazing at
the moon i imagine he uses the same
moonlight from the same star studded sky
as his night guide. i dream of him using
her as his path to bring him home. a
glimmer of hope sparkles in the back
of my mind. then it is gone. a glimmer
a sparkle a small piece of hope.
the only light in this dark
political world of war. through
the glass eyes in the homes of
soldiers families show the world
the hope we feel. they also give us
reasons to be scared. the letters,
lifesavers. his handwriting changes
with each letter. rougher. the pain
he feels shows through. it saddens the
heart. his words become brief and
the letters farther apart. then they stop
coming altogether. three short raps
upon the door of my heart
and fire and water rain down upon the earth
once more.
