Beneath the Surface

by The Angel of Secrets   Aug 17, 2008

Wasted fake smiles wander across my face,
I walk without elegance, walk without grace.
Just another girl from the east side of town,
Glass half empty, putting on a frown.

Before I could walk, I knew how to fight,
And I'll never admit, cause I'm always right.
Skin tough as a solid brick wall,
Going down fighting, always standing tall.

A past to fear, a past to scare,
Enough blood to create the worst nightmare.
But beneath the surface, I'm just like any other girl,
Just another bloody fist, surviving in the world

But if you even know me, you know life has been rough,
And on the surface I always look so strong and tough.
There's so much I don't have the courage to show,
I'm so damn good at faking, you'll never even know.

I absolutely love how you worded this stanza, great rhyming choice and flow!

"But if you even know me, you know life has been rough,
And on the surface I always look so strong and tough.
There's so much I don't have the courage to show,
I'm so damn good at faking, you'll never even know"

Excellent ending. I really like how in this poem you show up as a very strong and tough person, but deep down you are faking it, and just don't have the courage to show the real you. Great work. Keep writing, always and forever....
