Poppies In The Field

by debbylyn   Aug 18, 2008

Fields of poppies, a posy
Pennies make us proud
Gardens of stone, a river
Morning's misty shroud

Folded flag, a triangle
Sand swept battle scars
Sunset taps remembrance
Black crepe, golden star

Acorns strewn, an arbor
Mother's barren womb
Refrain of fossil teardrops
Sapling's marble tomb

Widows of oak, an eagle
Shadows on the sun
Lullabies to dirges
Retorts, count twenty one

* In memory of a fallen soldier

Very, very descriptive, though the poem seems to stop almost prematurely in every stanza. But I'll give it a 5/5. :)

What a sad heart wrenching piece.

    Fields of poppies, a posy
    Pennies make us proud
    Gardens of stone, a river
    Morning's misty shroud

The memories of those who fought for our freedom and what the poppy represents.

    Folded flag, a triangle
    Sand swept battle scars
    Sunset taps remembrance
    Black crepe, golden star

A flag, the haunting sound of taps being played. A medal. All that's left of some.

    Acorns strewn, an arbor
    Mother's barren womb
    Refrain of fossil teardrops
    Sapling's marble tomb

How hard to bury your child. From battles fought.

    Widows of oak, an eagle
    Shadows on the sun
    Lullabies to dirges
    Retorts, count twenty one

The end the 21 gun salute. As each shot is fired it feels like they die again and again.
    Great job!
