I suppose this 'music box' could almost be taken metaphorically. Is this, in fact, a lady whose career has run its course and whose glory days are behind her? She cannot move on from a world of showbiz, glitz and glamour, perhaps.
Or is it literally a battered old music box? Either way, the tale is a sad one and could apply either way.
