Being 'in love' is like a chemical,
It's a drug sent to the brain,
Then adrenalin is created,
And sent throughout your veins.
It creates for us a sex drive,
It makes us feel attraction,
Two bodies then do meet,
And gain their satisfaction.
But in time we become immune,
Like with every other drug,
And like with every other,
We can fall in and out of love.
And now listen to this,
If you feel it's what the poem lacks;
What follows up aren't falsities,
Instead are proven facts.
Only certain people set off the chemical,
We fall 'in love' but become immune,
The average is 3 years after marriage,
Which seems too very soon.
To become immune means a few things;
To gain the steadiness of heart,
And to feel at loss, not desperate,
When you are apart.
It means you won't get as excited,
When you see their face again,
It makes girls into ladies,
And boys into men.
But what lays after being in love,
Is a far greater feat to achieve,
And it's something that when you reach,
Will make you never leave.
To be 'in love' is one thing,
It's great to be together at the start,
But to love,
Is to be connected at the heart.
*For those who don't understand,
As exciting as young love is - the chase, the surprises, the learning curve, as well as the incredible feeling it gives you - it is nothing in comparison to what you can have, if you hold on, once the feeling of being 'in love' has ceased.
You are comfortable with the person - enough so to reveal your faults to them; you are aware of the person; you understand the person - so much so that you finish their sentences.
