What Lurks Inside

It dwells in the deepest, darkest parts of her mind
The invisible cancer
Devouring her hopes and dreams
Controlling her tortured body
Forcing the cuts on her wrists
Encouraging the burns on her legs
Rejoicing in the scars in her heart
Governing her numb soul
Until the day she fades.
