Crumpled Papers

by William Flores   Aug 19, 2008

Crumpled papers on crumpled grass
Scattered across by winds of past
Specs of dust glitter and shadows cast
Like jaded stars sewn across the dark vast

A spec of dust for each memory in each hand
A shooting star for each story written in life's pen
Like faded lines in crumpled papers they end
In the memory of now and in the memory of then

They lie asleep in pictures of yesterday
In songs quietly sung and melodies of haze
They lie asleep on shades of perfect clay
Remembering days in amazing blaze

Still-frames in the sky
Taint the scenery black and white
Crumpled papers begin to fly
Gathering winds of forgotten time

Redundant whispers remind
These papers are crumpled
But not left behind
No, never left behind

I crumple papers and crumple grass
With dusted memories in weary hands
My specs of glitter, shadows they cast
Like jaded stars they sow the dark vast

I lie asleep in dreams of yesterday
With seams strung in blurry haze
I lie asleep on shades of perfect gray
Dreaming [awake] in amazing blaze

Rewinding whispers in my mind
Always there, always to remind
Past tales in these papers they lie
Lying in yesterday, in the clutches of time

The memories of now and those of then
I put on paper so I can revisit them
As I close my eyes I begin to pretend
That these crumpled papers...

Will, one day, be smooth again
