Now i see

by Rodney Kirby   Aug 21, 2008

If I had things to do all over,
I would just laugh a little more.
I would go to the fair with the kids,
or just walk along the shore.
Life does not give second chances,
You only get one shot to get it right,
Hold your wifes hand, kiss her on the cheek,
and tuck your kids in at night.
I can barely walk, or move around,
and almost have lost my voice,
I can say this to you with full heart,
that happiness is a choice.
I am broken down to nothing
and can barely hold my son,
I feel my world is cloudy and dark,
I wish I could see the sun
If your daughter wants to play tea,
Please, make it first on your list,
Or you will be Lying here like me,
thinking about all the times you have missed.
Next time, I would take my wife for a walk in the woods,
and look up at the trees,
Fill my heart with god; be humble,
and get down on bended knee.
Im so weak now, I dont know how long I have,
I just want to hear my son say dad,
If I dont make it for this, I got to see his smile though,
and for this I am glad.
My wife, I love you for helping me,
and staying by my side,
I wish I could take back the times,
I ignored you when you cried.
Maybe I should have danced with my daughter,
and read that silly book,
Instead of being busy,
and sacrifice the 5 minutes that it took.
I would never take life for granted again,
if God would only hear my plea,
Why did it take this cancer to make my blindness see.

I'm speechless....your poems are so thought provoking. It makes me want to go find my boyfriend and just tell him I love him. The words and phrases are all their own yet bound together to make this wonderful piece.

I will be thinking of this poem the next time I'm with a friend, family member, or someone I love, even someone I dislike...life is so precious...why waste it hating and being elusive when you could be loving and inclusive?

You penned thoughts that go through so many at the time of the end or as it's closing in. We can learn from kids, nothing keeps them down, they enjoy what ever minute of life they can. They have taught me so much.
This was wonderful and emotional, again it brought tears. Great job

Rodney,I think so many can learn from your words,we often wait too late to say the things we need to say,I'm glad you are saying them now.
Don't give up til the last breath, many have defeated this decease. I hope you are one of those! God bless you.
