BONDAGE

by Rodney Kirby   Aug 21, 2008

BREAK THESE CHAINS AND SET ME FREE,
OR I WILL DIE INSIDE AND THERE WILL BE NO MORE ME.

MY SOUL I LEFT IN THE FIELDS TO ROAM
SO WHILE IN THIS BONDAGE MY HEART IS HOME.

ROWS OF MY BRETHERAN SHACKLED TO THE GROUND, SOME
CRYING AND WHALING AND SOME NOT A SOUND.

I'M VOMITING, THIS URINE IN MY FACE: STAINS MY EYES,
THE WAVES CRASH AGAINST THE SHIP AND DROWN THE CRIES.

WILL I SEE HOME AGAIN, PROBABLY NOT
I SHOUT OUT TO GOD, THIS IS NOT THE LIFE I SOUGHT.

SOME MEN GREW SICK AND WERE THROWN ASIDE,
THEIR BEAUTIFUL DARK SKIN, VANISHING BENEATH THE TIDE.

MY BROTHERS WERE BEAT FIERCLY THEIR SKIN NO LONGER BLACK BUT RED,
YOU SAVAGE MEN WHO CHAIN ME; YOU MAY HAVE BY BODY, BUT MY SOUL IS DEAD.

ONE DAY I WILL RETURN HOME TO MY AFRICAN LAND
MAYBE ONLY IN SPIRIT , BUT HOLDING GODS HAND.

I LAY STILL IN A CALM, AND FEEL PAIN NO MORE,
AS MAN GRABBED MY HAND AND LEAD ME TO SHORE.

BREAK THESE CHAINS AND SET ME FREE,
OR I WILL DIE INSIDE AND THERE WILL BE NO MORE ME.

What a touching and wonderful write. It seems this is the second time you've made me cry with your words.
You have touched on something that I find an tremendous a deed. Bravo for bringing it to print
