She didn't cry today

by Chelsey   Aug 24, 2008

She said "Here's the house and heres the key
As for my happiness, it's coming with me"
Gone are the nights she cries herself to sleep
Gone are the days she prayed so hard she'd weep

He'd given her so much false hope over the years
Broke her heart every time he pushed her aside for beers
She hung on for their daughter, to raise her in a happy home
Her baby now 17, you can't fool her, she's grown

It tore her apart, but she never let her mom know
That she loved her daddy deeply and she truly didn't want to go
But mommas happiness meant a lot to her little girl
It was time to get out of their imperfect little world

Just for a split second, a few memories flashed before her eyes
All those times she tried to talk to him, but he wouldn't compromise
Those moments she'd scream, "I want a husband to love me"
Those times she tried to beg him, those times neighbors heard her plea

She could taste the salt go down her lips, but when she touched her cheek
She felt no tears dribble down nor did her mascara streak
She didn't cry today, for a man she didn't love
She only looked forward to her new life and thats all she could think of

Now he's a lonely soul, but oh how hard she tried
For years she tried to soften his heart, years he saw that she cried
Now he wishes it all would have turned out a different way
Now he wishes his wife and only daughter would have wanted to stay

Gone just like that, into a new home they went
Her daughter fighting tears, holding back her true comments
Her daughter said, "Here's the house and here's the key
As for my happiness, it's gone, I no longer carry it with me"

Mom didn't cry today, but her daughter hurt and wept
She wasn't familiar with this house, she hated where she slept
And the thought of daddy in an empty home made her heart sink
She prayed, "Lord deliver him , let him no longer drink"

As mom stopped praying for her and tears no longer fell
Her baby girl called to God and she wasn't well
As mom thought peace and happiness were here and all tears were gone
She was oblivious to see, her daughter proved her wrong...

This is very sad but well written Chelsey. Sometimes situations just have to hurt someone, sad but true. Hope this is all behind you now.
