A Ring of Water

by Helena Jaster   Sep 5, 2008

Into the dark and heartless abyss I stare
Listening to the chaotic churning and swirling
Of waters of black
The inky sickness of the stagnant waters sinks
Into me
My half attempted efforts minimal in scope
And brief in execution
My head swirls with a thousand thoughts
Drawn from the depths as the waters are
Exposed and the rock face revealed
I reach down and draw out a single object
A hollow trinket, a single testament of time
Standing still a wedding ring roles gently
In my hand along with my thoughts
Of times past
Slowly the ring is rendered as dust,
The churning waters replaced by a child
Alone in a bed at rest
