Lucas - born 23.11.2000

by Mr. Darcy   Sep 7, 2008

Hello, my name is Lucas,
People say, I'm a great boy.
Mum and dad love to visit,
I can see it brings them joy.

I can see their smiling faces
As they help out with cares for me.
They even love to change my nappy
Whenever I've done a 'pee'

There's many devoted nurses,
All just as lovely as can be,
Working hard throughout every day,
Taking great care for little me.

My lungs do their very best
And breathe whenever they can
Mum and dad whisper -
(don't worry)
'You're still only a little man!'

(revised 7.09.08)

I decided to submit this after reading about a special little girl called Arianna, aka Peanut :)
Please read her dad's loving words - http://www.best-love-poems.com/poems.php?id=1083125

This was written in November 2000, days after he was born. He had already been operated on and was in intensive care.

He was born with a condition called Gastroschisis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastroschisis

My little man is now 7 years old, and although he still needs medical help, he is by far my biggest achievement.

Watch this space for other sentimental gems about his journey.

Aww. I know what it's like to keep constant watch over a preemie and not know how they'll be from day to day. My nephew was born on November 9, 2008, a month and a half before his due date. He doesn't have valves in his heart, and he's been diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. I've read this poem of yours before, but when I read it the first time, it didn't really affect me. Re-reading it again now, it almost made me cry. It was wonderful, and you could tell it came from the heart. Thanks for sharing. 5/5

Aw. This poem is absolutely wonderful. It nearly brought me to tears, though I held back because I just did my makeup for school. Haha. =]

Really, though. This is so heartfelt, and beautifully written. I always enjoy reading things parents write for/about their children because the love that comes through their words always amazes me.

I can only hope that one day, if you haven't already, you will show this to your son. I'm positive he will love it.

    Wonderful job.
