Butterfly

by ntv650   Sep 8, 2008

A butterfly is kept in an ivory cage,
Fluttering about wearily in circles.
The rain patters the ivory bars softly
And the sun slowly dries them again.

So the winter blanches and summer sears
Each marring, weakening the ivory prison.
And overwhelmed the butterfly laid down
Expecting a lonely but yearned for death.

A visitor passing, notices and wonders
Why it's mind and body is so broken
When it has such beautiful wings
That can carry it to greatness still

At that the butterfly opened it's blue eyes
And saw the wide spaces between each bar
So it flew through them and was free
And danced in the air for all to see
