Through Hollow Walls

by silvershoes   Sep 15, 2008

A long time ago, I lived alone
Days I could hardly pay my rent
It was a claustrophobic room
I called my own
In a cold, run down apartment

One lonely night with open eyes
I heard a noise that scarred my soul
It shattered the awful pierce
Of Cindy's cries
Right through the roof, it blew a hole

I heard it all through hollow walls
Poor Cindy sold her love to drugs
Jack got himself in deep with thugs
The dream may rise, but always falls

I thought that if the day arose
If justice required I play my piece
I would act out the scene and
Risk the blows
But I froze, afraid to call the police

That night the sirens never rang
Jack fled fast with last month's rent
But to love taking Cindy it was
All the same
Right up in smoke is where she went

I heard it all through hollow walls
Poor Cindy sold her love to drugs
Jack got himself in deep with thugs
The dream may rise, but always falls

This was truelly an amazing poem. Loved it. The rhythmn was at first hard for me to follow, but I loved the words and story so much, that I had to read it again and found the true rhythmn. Very well done.
