Calling out to anyone close by
This lake swallows me with fire
Waves of heat closing on me
Blue flames chasing me away
The shoreline fading quickly
Inhaling smoke, I surrender
To survive, I must be strong
I hold on, finding a shred of hope
Grabbing on, latching my fingers
I allow myself consumption
Weak, needing air, I swim
Powerful strokes one after another
Fighting a current to be myself
Holding on to all the good
Pulling myself to the jagged bank
