These hands of mine

These hands of mine

You sit here and wonder as you look at my hands
Where have they been and what have they done
Are they hands to be proud of or shall they carry on hiding
From the sins of the past
Terribly scarred from the deeds that they've done
Took a bullet through the pulse and knife wounds, a few
Scarred and broken knuckles
Almost severed my pinky on a saw one year
These are some scars to name but a few
You look at the palm side, then you say gross
My hands are big, thick and strong
They are hard and course, the left has a huge scar from finger to pulse
But let me tell you something when you gross out over them
These hands have loved my wife like few women have known
Hard and course they may be, but capable of the most gentle touch
These are the very hands that have cared for and nurtured my family
Why worry about past deeds that were done
Look at the beauty they have created
They have the ability to put my thoughts to paper
In the past they would have knocked you down
My friend now they will lift you up in body and in spirit
These are skilled hands with finesse known only to a few
With these hands I manipulate steel and wood with the greatest of ease
These are willing hands
So before you say gross next time, ask not what have they done
But rather ask me what can they do
For even as you belittle them, they are eager to help even you
These hands of mine

    Grant,

You are about as real as a man can get.
A fine specimen and I have this feeling your hands have indeed performed miracles:)
I hope and think your wife adores both you and your hands. You deserve no less:)
I love the poem, you have such a strong voice in it:)

    A huge hug,

Your write sort goes along with the old adage, don't judge a book by its cover. When I see someone with hands like yours, I think how very hard they have worked in their life and yet how very soft their touch is. They are the people you normally can count on to help when needed.

I always found the rough hands of a man were very sexy . A working man is to be respected, and cherished. The heart of a poet and the hands of a working man. what a great combo. Great poem rather you were venting or not .

    What a heart touching piece.

These hands have loved my wife like few women have known
Hard and course they may be, but capable of the most gentle touch

Some don't know how powerful a touch can be. The touch of a hand can lend support, comfort, Can speak without a word, the human touch can say I love you , things will be Ok, The touch of a hand can say hello, and goodbye. The hands are capable of so much. Creating, working, loving and praying.

    What a wonderful write.
    Great job!
    Take Care
