Man in the Moon (Song)

Man in the Moon
You've been our companion
For billions of years
Satellite circling around us
Without an atmosphere
Have you solved the ancient riddle
Of why we are here?
Man in the Moon
Can you tell me
'Cause the answer isn't clear

Man in the Moon
What's it like to float in the sky?
Do you sometimes wish
A comet would stop by and say hi?
When dawn comes up
Do you sigh as the Sun draws nigh?
Man in the Moon
Have you a clue as to the reason why?

As you wax and wane by degree
Do you smile down at me?
Won't you send my way
The sweetest of dreams,
Dear Man in the Moon?

Man in the Moon
Hum a tune for
Weary daughters and sons
Who wait for something better
When their day is done
Please watch over us
Oh silent, silvery one
Man in the Moon
Sing softly of what is to come

Just ruminations as I sat on my patio one evening. This is more a lyric than a poem, but I think it does nicely as either, and I plan to set it to music :-)
