Broken Hourglass

by StandStill   Sep 20, 2008

Stars twinkle in the sky,
watching the world march on.
The hourglass is broken now,
replay the tired song.

Look at the velvet midnight,
time is passing, burning slow.
Watch the seasons change,
and deep down you're scared you know..

Smiles fly like butterflies,
so beautiful and free.
Butterflies eaten by birds,
time tastes like irony.

What if your dreams are never comin'?
What if you sit and watch and stare?
What if nothing ever happens,
and you're always stuck holdin' yourself there.

Stare at the warm night life,
neon buzzin' like the stars.
Lay upon the dewy grass,
the world's fallin' to the dogs and cars.

Taste the milkyway sweetness,
tastes bitter on your tongue.
Watchin' life fly past your eyes,
grow from old to very young.

There's no life that's meant to be,
who wants to live this way?
Dreams seem to turn to ghosts
as ambitions fade to grey.

What if your dreams are never comin'?
What if you sit and watch and stare?
What if nothing ever happens,
and you're always stuck holdin' yourself there.

Touch the stars this morning,
watchin' time trickle down the hourglass.
The world is marchin', on and on...
hold your breath, watch the seasons pass.
