Lemming

by Emily   Sep 20, 2008

Run run, from what you had
Run while you're hurt,
And run while you're glad.
Run from your food
And run from your home,
Run to escape,
But you're never alone.
Everyone's running,
And no one asks why.
Everyone's trampling
And out of their minds.
Yet all this hysteria,
Does not satisfy
Whatever you're craving
Less with each stride
Run to keep up
to stay with the times.
Run without rest,
to stay with the lies
Run to hit work
so you won't be late
cancel your plans
to fill up your plate.
Don't take time,
to waste days and sing.
Don't tell your children,
of the wonders in spring.
Don't kiss your mother,
before old age comes.
Don't let just people,
Make you ever slow down.
Don't believe what you want,
you'll only be ridiculed.
Don't defend those who've fallen,
for you'll only look pitiful.
Follow the leader,
and flow down the stream
Dip your hands in the water,
to keep them all clean.
File your papers,
vote for more war.
Kiss your wife's cheek,
Run to the store.
Yell at your child,
when he's done some wrong.
When you go fishing,
don't take him along.
You just keep running,
I'll relax and be free
because you are nothing,
but a lemming to me.
