Thailand Vs. The United States

Just because two countries are separated by millions of miles and a few oceans, doesn't mean they do not share similar characteristics. But then again, it doesn't mean they don't have differences either. Two countries in specific is Thailand and the US. Some may say that they are so different that it makes them more alike then most realize.

For example, in the United States education system, you start Kindergarten and graduate after completing the 12th grade. For some, you will go off to a college or University to further your studies and start a career. People in Thailand do exactly the same thing. The curriculum, teaching strategies, and specific courses may differ, but in the end the goal remains the same; to become successful. Another common factor, is the testing required to move to the next grade level. Thai students, just like us, are not able to move onto the next grade level until that years test is passed. At the end of M6, which is equivalent to the senior year, students are required to take the Advanced National Educational Test or the A-NET, which is similar to the SAT's here in the US.

Thailand is often referred to as "the land of smiles." It is guaranteed that you will feel welcome upon arrival in the friendship oriented country. But, be careful, the Thai culture takes manners very seriously and are offended very easily. So if you plan on traveling to Thailand anytime soon, be sure to take your shoes off upon entering the families home. In comparison with America, the Thai people are very friendly yet strict with the way they live their lives. Certain religions and ethnicities in the US may be more structured but, there are no specific customs for the country as a whole.

"Life is so short, we must move very slowly."

Do you live in Thailand or have you visited Thailand? I have been to Thailand many times and yes, there are those similarities and differences. (: It's always interesting to read about two cultures in comparision with one another! It was a fun read. If you want to go on with that track of thought you should look more into world-views such as: Individual oriented versus group-oriented, the differences in government, and the religious differences too. (:
