How can love burn if never returned?

Striving, crawling and begging for the ultimate prize of life.
Obstacles that block and ensnare us are causes of
vexatious strifes.
A wish and meaning of peace shall be bestowed if ever obtained.
Pain and fear quickly shatter as darknesses chains are unrestrained.

All have no choice but to travel this hopeful and decaying path.
At the end one will be granted greatness or feel love's twisted wrath.
As someone pours their heart and gets deeper in realities held fame
The slightest denial or lost ruins loves de lusional name.

What shall happen as delicate dreams crumble and wane?
Lives become tainted and shriek as efforts tumble in vain.
Wants and failures control the DNA of our soul's craving distress.
Past experiences are scorched to cinders as minds are left a mess.

Souls dwell on ashes as love didn't stop the fire of ripping hearts
Scars and burns transform spirit's skins as pieces of them depart
Remains of ourselves than only ask to be whole fully restored
Standing broken with hunger all survive on thoughts that are deplored.
